Mom's fudgy fudge recipe!!!!

Growing up, my mom always made this for EVERYONE we knew in the neighborhood around Christmas. But it's good anytime of the year! I made this same recipe for the holiday party at our apartment. But instead of using walnuts, I decided to add pieces of candy cane I crushed up and sprinkled that on top of the fudge while it was cooling. Enjoy!!
Love,
Megan (and technically, from my Mom too!)

3cups sugar
3/4cup(1 1/2sticks)butter or margerine
1small can(5oz)evaporated milk
1 12oz bag of semi sweet chocolate chips or 12 squares semi sweet baking chocolate squares
1 jar( 7oz)marshmallow cream
1cup chopped walnuts
1 tsp.vanilla

The recipe recommends lining a 9 inch square pan with foil, but I always buttered a 9x13 pan.Place sugar ,butter, and evaporated milk in large heavy sauce pan and bring to a rolling boil over medium heat stirring constantly. Boil 4 minutes or until candy thermometer reaches 234 degrees stirring constantly to avoid scorching. Remove from heat. Add chocolate and marshmallow cream and stir until melted. Add walnuts and vanilla and and mix well. Pour immediately into prepared pan.Let stand at room temperature 4 hours or until completely cooled. Cut into one inch 1 inch squares.Store in tightly covered container at room temperature. Makes 3 pounds or 40 servings about two squares each.
